3 Tiers of Artists

Here at Faye Smith Agency we choose to represent 3 tiers of artists in order to ensure we are taking into consideration all skin tones, hair types, ethnic backgrounds, cultural preferences, styling needs and budget. As all all-inclusive makeup and hair artist agency it is important to us that we accommodate the makeup and hair needs of all of our clients and potential clients. Offering 3 tiers of artists enables us to achieve our goal of being an all-inclusive makeup and hair artist agency. We are Faye Smith Agency, Canada’s top hair and makeup artist agency.

In 2022 we launched a tiered makeup and hair artist system, introducing our Senior Stylist team and Master Stylist team. To keep the standard of our services high, at this time we chose to represent experienced artists only. Our Master Makeup and Hair Artists are our most experienced tier of artists. They are award winners, educators and published artists. They have honed their skills for over a decade and have many specialized skills that make them unique and valuable to our customers. Our Senior Makeup and Hair Artists are extremely skilled and experienced but have not yet reached the award winning celebrity status that our master stylists have. Our Senior Stylists offer competitively priced hair and makeup services in Vancouver and Toronto.

In 2023 we could see that the market was changing which is why we chose to offer 3 tiers of artists to our clients. The Covid-19 pandemic had really thrown the wedding makeup and hair world out of its usual rhythm. In 2022 when all of the restrictions were lifted and wedding could take place as usual again we saw a huge boom in the wedding industry. There was a massive influx of business, so much that we had to make many new hires and create new systems in order to accommodate it all. We noticed that clients were willing to pay anything to get a hair and makeup artist booked.

After the boom we saw that inflation was getting out of control and we were forced to increase our rates considerably in order to account for our increased business costs. 2023 was very different than 2022. In 2023 we saw that money was tight for a lot of our clients and potential clients. Even our competitively priced Senior Stylist roster was seen to be too expensive. We had to reflect on this new time in life and come up with new business ideas. 

It was in 2023 that we launched our Junior Stylist roster. We were always cautious about hiring inexperienced artists because we want to provide the best service to our clients and of course avoid complaints and bad reviews. We knew we had to be careful with how this roster of artists would be recruited and how it would be advertised.

Our Junior Stylists are newly graduated hair and makeup artists who the FSA recruiters see a special talent in. We connected with Vancouver’s top makeup and hair school, Blanche MacDonald, to see how they could help us find Vancouver’s best new makeup and hair talent. We are thrilled to remain connected with Blanche Macdonald after all of these years.

Faye Smith Agency now represents a special team of new talent who we call our Junior Stylists. This is our budget friendly tier of makeup and hair services. We are upfront with our clients about what to expect from this team of newbies. They are a wonderful choice for anyone looking for a simple hair and makeup look, anyone on a budget, and anyone who has extra time to get ready since Junior Stylists do need more time to complete each look than our other rosters.
